Doing Your Bit Beyond World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day was first created in 1985 by the UN General Assembly to raise awareness of human settlements and the basic right to adequate shelter for all. This day also reminds us all just how responsible we are for preserving and safeguarding habitats for future generations.

If you’re looking to support the current state of humanity, ensure that future generations have access to happy and fulfilling habitats, and you’re ready to conquer the climate crisis, we’re here to help…

How you can help At Home/In Your Community:

Get Involved In Community Events

One of the best ways to support humanity regarding habitats is getting involved in your local habitat.

If there are community events in your local area or building, attend them and get involved — most communities will have a notice board or a Facebook group where you can see what’s going on in your community!

If there aren’t any community events going on in your area, why not try and start something of your own? Organise a community discussion and brainstorm about how you can improve the state of your community, how you can make your area more eco-friendly, and how you can work together to contribute to a carbon-free world.

Use Herboo to Start A Community or Home Garden

One-quarter of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions come from food production. So, you can support the theme of accelerating urban action for carbon-free living by tackling this issue — start a community garden or a home garden!

By ordering Herboo on Juno, you can buy everything from nectar flowers and herbs to root vegetables and micro-greens, making it the perfect platform to use to start your big community or home garden project! So have fun getting your community or family together to create a garden, sow the seeds, and then reap the rewards once your produce grows!

Raise Awareness In Your Community For Urban October

World Habitat Day falls under “Urban October”, which the UN-Habitat and partner organisations are dedicated to discussing sustainable urbanisation. However, it’s not just for these organisations to get involved — you can too!

For October, whether in the office, in your local community, or with your family at home, share the word of World Habitat Day and the entire month of Urban October! If we get more people involved in the conversation, we’ll get more people organising and taking part in urban action for a carbon-free world!

Awareness and education are key in initiating change — remember that!

How to help at Work:

Donate To Nula On Juno

Since this year’s World Habitat Day focuses on reducing carbon emissions, one of the best ways to reduce your carbon emissions is by using platforms such as Nula!

Nula is a Juno Partner that helps both individuals and companies offset their carbon emissions by protecting threatened forests worldwide. Donating to Nula is a great way to support both humans and wildlife habitats whilst doing your bit to stop the climate crisis!

Encourage others to do the same by organising a Nula donation with your team at work or spread the word in your community about this wonderful platform.

Use Racefully To Organise A Race To Raise Money For A Sustainability Charity

Want to raise money for sustainability and get a group of people together for a team challenge? Racefully is the perfect platform to use! You can ask your Team Admin on Juno to organise a race to raise money for a sustainable charity utilising this platform. Register your interest here and we’ll let your Team Admin know.

Racefully allows multiple members to form a community on the app and promotes group exercise together virtually. So, pick a sustainable charity that everyone wants to get behind and get moving!

Use Your Juno Card Or Concierge Towards A Carbon-Free Commute Option

Suppose you want to continue supporting mother earth long after World Habitat comes to an end. In that case, one of the most accessible and most beneficial things you can do is use your Juno card or the Juno Concierge to support yourself in making your daily commute carbon-free.

Using Juno to help you could mean anything from getting new gear for your bike on Wiggle, purchasing an exercise watch to track your steps, or donating to other carbon offsetting charities.

Whatever you’re doing this World Habitat Day, try to get involved in some urban action for a carbon-free world all year round.

At the very least, take a moment to feel grateful for your habitat and make a pact to do better for others that maybe don’t have a similar habitat, as well as Mother Earth.
